This is the most well known form of yoga, also known as the yoga of physical poses. The word hatha come from "ha" and "tha" meaning sun and moon in sanskrit. Hatha yoga purifies the nervous system and strengthens the body. Two most renowned texts of this type of yoga are the Hatha-Yoga-Pradipika and the Gheranda-Samhita. Hatha-Yoga is a branch of Yoga which requires the aspirant to contribute huge amount of time on physical processes or asanas and pranayama (breathing exercises). Hatha-Yoga teaches the yogin to attain a state of freedom. This is a means of physical purification which enables the body to be fit and gives the ability to perform higher stages of meditation. The Hatha-Yoga also claims that its adherents can attain great siddhis. Hatha-Yoga can certainly bring a person to enlightenment, but its demands are suitable for those who are ready to commit themselves fully to severe discipline.
Together with pranayama and meditation it attempts to bring spritual elements of mind into the body to achieve perfect health. That is, it concentrates mostly on the third (asanas) and fourth (pranayama)step on the eight limbs of yoga.
Asanas massages and tones your internal organs, helping them to prevent diseases such as arthritis and hypertension etc.Regular practice of asanas help i reducing body fat and also help in overcoming common syndromes.Asanas also bring balance to internal organs and normalize hormonal balance within the body.
